Interaction mechanisms in small-scale model MSE walls under the strip footing load

چکیده

The effect of preloading on mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) has remained an aspect difficult to quantify in design, particularly when considering different reinforcement types, stiffness values, and facing rigidity. This study analyses several scaled model tests MSE walls under a strip footing load with single unloading-reloading cycle. Scaled models were constructed as part this investigation expand the evaluation previously full-scale tests. wall deflections measured compared analytical models. failure mechanism soil, before after load, was included via particle image velocimetry (PIV) method. results indicate that bearing capacity is higher for rigid than flexible facing. PIV analysis first second loading step formed two lines angle (?/4 + ?/2). deflection values step, however, smaller those reached during small-scale Good agreement observed between proposed method experimental taking into account effect.

Bearing capacity of shell strip footing on reinforced sand

In this paper, the ultimate load capacities of shell foundations on unreinforced and reinforced sand were determined by laboratory model tests. A series of loading tests were carried out on model shell footing with and without single layer of reinforcement. The tests were done for shell foundation at different shell embedment depth and subgrade density. The results were compared with those for ...

Small Scale Effect on the Vibration of Orthotropic Plates Embedded in an Elastic Medium and Under Biaxial In-plane Pre-load Via Nonlocal Elasticity Theory

In this study, the free vibration behavior of orthotropic rectangular graphene sheet embedded in an elastic medium under biaxial pre-load is studied. Using the nonlocal elasticity theory, the governing equation is derived for single-layered graphene sheets (SLGS). Differential quadrature method (DQM) has been used to solve the governing equations for various boundary conditions. To verify the a...

The Slow Food Model: A Road for Small-Scale Productions in a Globalised Market

The paper presents the articulated strategy of valorization, implemented by the international movement called Slow Food in Italy and abroad in order to reconsider the concept of agricultural profitability. In particular, the paper suggests profitability lays on the value markets recognize to agricultural production. In this perspective, the Slow Food strategy represents a good practice to be em...

Finite Element Analyses for Centrifuge Modelling of Narrow MSE Walls

High transportation demand has led to widening of existing roadways to improve traffic flow. In some cases, the space available on site is limited and the construction of earth retaining walls is done in front of previously stabilized walls. This can lead to retaining wall designs that are narrower than those addressed in current design guidelines. Narrow walls are Mechanically Stabilized Earth...

Intrusion of Geomesh in Gypseous Soil Under Single Footing

Methods to improve bearing capacity of footing resting of collapsing soil can, in fact, take two approaches, improving soil strength properties and intrusion of reinforcing sorces into soil. The footing is modeled by a square steel plate 0.1 by 0.1 m. The footing is loaded as to have a stress of 40 kPa and settlement is receded in dry and in soaking conditions. Two depths of the geo-mesh reinfo...
